Our Story & Philosophy
Sunset Viaje began with an evening in León.
We were sitting with friends after a long day, the kind of night where the city feels alive in a way you can't capture in a guidebook. And it hit us: Nicaragua and Central America has so many cultural experiences that travellers simply don't get to see, not because they don't want to, but because it's hard to access without local relationships, good pacing, and someone who knows how to stitch the whole trip together.
That's why we built Sunset Viaje: to create journeys that feel effortless, authentic, human, and to help people find their travel tribe along the way.
Today, we're a locally owned tour operator based in León, Nicaragua, designing small-group and private trips across the Central America. We handle the planning, pacing, and logistics end-to-end — working with a trusted network of local guides, hosts, and transport partners — so you can focus on the moments that matter.
Our trips are made for people who want connection without chaos: warm and social, but not party-focused. We welcome solo travellers, bring the right people together, and keep groups intentionally small so friendships flurish. You'll get the comfort and clarity you'd expect from a European-led operation, with the depth and access that only comes from being locally grounded.
By the end, the goal isn't just that you've "seen something." It's that you've shared it with a crew that feels like friends.
Meet the Founders
Lieven
Co-Founder
Lieven first arrived in Latin America at 13, and it became a lifelong pull. Since then, he's travelled through nearly every country in the Americas and extensively across Southeast Asia. With 12 years in tourism and 8 years living in Nicaragua, he brings a rare mix of big-picture travel experience and real local understanding.
Lieven is the person who knows how to unlock the trip beyond the obvious — the cultural experiences that most people miss, the right people to meet, and the places that still feel genuinely local. He's a big part of why Sunset Viaje journeys feel grounded, personal, and connected to place.
Charlie
Co-Founder
Charlie has travelled across Latin America, Europe, and Southeast Asia, and now calls León, Nicaragua home. He's obsessed with the difference between a trip that looks good on paper and one that feels good in real life — the pacing, the energy, the small touches, and the group dynamic.
Charlie focuses on the "travel tribe" side of Sunset Viaje: welcoming solo travellers, creating a warm and social atmosphere, and making sure connection happens naturally, without forcing it.
